Therapy Approaches

Getting started is simple

We've made it easy to take the first step. No long forms, no confusing processes—just a clear path forward.

Step 01

Tell us what's going on

A few questions about what you're experiencing and what you're looking for. Takes about a minute. No account, no long forms.

Step 02

Talk to a therapist, free

A 15-minute conversation with one of our clinicians — not an intake coordinator. We'll talk through what's happening and whether we're the right fit.

Step 03

Begin, at your pace

If it feels right, we book your first full session and plan care together. If it doesn't, we'll say so honestly and help you find someone who does fit.

Start with step one

Takes about a minute. No account needed.

Why people choose Niwa

We're a two-clinician practice, which means you're never passed between an intake team, an algorithm, and a stranger. The person who takes your first call is the person you'll be working with.

You talk to the clinician who'll treat you

No intake department, no matching quiz, no handoff. Your first conversation is with the therapist you'd be seeing.

Evidence-based, and more than that

We use approaches with real research behind them — CBT, DBT, ERP, and others — alongside depth-oriented work that gets at why patterns repeat.

Virtual across Ontario

Sessions by video or phone, from wherever you have privacy. No commute, no waiting room. Evening appointments available.

Coverage handled

Most extended health plans cover a Registered Psychotherapist. We direct-bill where plans permit, and we're an enrolled NIHB provider — eligible First Nations and Inuit clients pay nothing.

What people ask before they start

The questions we hear most often, answered plainly.

What if I don't know what's wrong?

Most people don't when they first call. You don't need a diagnosis, an explanation, or the right vocabulary. Describing the last bad week is enough to start.

What if I don't click with the therapist?

Then it isn't the right fit, and that's useful information rather than a failure. Tell us, and we'll help you find someone who suits you better — including outside our practice.

Do I have to commit to anything?

No. The 15-minute consultation is free and carries no obligation. Plenty of people use it to work out whether therapy is what they want at all.

Ready to take the first step?

Reaching out is the hardest part. The rest is a conversation.
